GeoZone - Applied Geology & Geotechnics
About Us
GeoZone is headed up by Gerald Davie, who has had in excess of 25 years in the geotechnical industry. He is one of a handful of UK qualified M.Sc professionals in the country, having obtained his Masters degree from the University of Leeds back in 1994.

Geotechnics has taken him to some interesting jobs in some out-of-the-way places, including both the large dams in Lesotho, tunnels in the Italian dolomites, a dam site in the Sultanate of Oman, the coal fields of Mozambique, the upgrade of Chapman's Peak Drive, the Gautrain project and the massive bridges across the deeply- incised valleys of the Transkei for the proposed N2 realignment.
These are of course the glamorous jobs, but there have been a host of other perhaps less exciting, but certainly interesting projects, with some providing their fair share of challenges and stress. These include slope stability analysis of some scary 30 m high cuts on KZN's rural roads, foundation assesments for multi-storey buildings, as well as numerous site investigations for townships, housing developments, industrial sites and communication towers.
In addition GeoZone has been involved in several contamination and groundwater characterisation projects both in South Africa and in England, most recently for some of the large chemical industries in Durban and Richards Bay.

GeoZone is firmly embedded within the civil engineering industry and is able to draw on a vast range of expertise available. We readily admit to not knowing everything about everything but we certainly know who the main movers and shakers are in the industry and are able to put together the best team for any geotechnical project.
As part of contributing to the geotechnical and geological community, as well as to the broader public we contribute regularly to the Witness and other publications, publish a blog and encourage those interested to join our online community and sign up for our newsletter.
